Graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of the Kyiv State University named after T. G. Shevchenko (1972) and graduate school of the Faculty of Philosophy (1975). Since 1981, candidate of sciences, theme of the candidate's thesis "The problem of criteria of modern folk art". In 1999 he was awarded the title of professor.
In the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv he works from 1975 to 1991 as an assistant, associate professor of the Department of Ethics and Aesthetics. He worked as deputy dean of the Faculty of Philosophy. From 1991 to present - Head of the Department of Ukrainian Philosophy and Culture. From 1991 to 2016 he was a member of the Academic Council of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. From 2008 to 2016, the head of the Arts Council of the University.
Main directions of scientific research:
• history of philosophy of Ukraine;
• History of Ukrainian Culture;
• Ukrainian and foreign culture;
• culturology;
• aesthetics;
• folklore studies.
